Topics:

Applicability of CAS to your contracts generates a new set of regulations under which you must govern your cost accounting practices. Going beyond FAR Part 31 Cost Principles, CAS adds specificity to the manner in which you measure, assign, and allocate costs, and thrusts upon covered contracts potential price adjustments for failing to comply with those provisions.

Many government contractors, growing small businesses and larger companies with little government business, often fail to detect warning signs that will later precipitate applicability of CAS. Ignorance is not bliss in this situation, and failure to know when this sleeping giant has awakened can create huge problems in your bidding and billing practices.

This presentation is designed to assist contracts and accounting professionals in understanding business events that may trigger CAS coverage, and how to prepare for those events. We will discuss:

  • CAS Applicability Criteria and Exemptions from CAS Coverage
  • CAS impact from the loss of Small Business status under current SBA rules
  • Changing business environments that can lead to CAS coverage
  • Type of contracts most often precipitating CAS coverage
  • Trigger contract award events that expose a company to CAS coverage
  • Understanding CAS Certifications and Representations during the prime and subcontract bid process
  • Averting non-compliance issues through pro-active evaluation of cost accounting practices before CAS coverage takes effect
